All e-cigarettes emit damaging chemicals, although some models release more than others. In California, at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, the researchers found that in every e-liquid there are two solvents: there’s the substance that vaporizes in the e-cig, which emits toxic chemicals, and then there’s formaldehyde, which is another substance that causes nausea, coughing, and wheezing.
The study was published in the Environment Science and Technology, and it found that these toxic chemicals feature emissions that escalate when the device becomes hotter. The study assessed 3 different types of liquids; each with 2 different vaporizers that operate at different battery power settings.
Common chemicals found in e-cigarettes
Common e-cigs emit substances such as acetaldehyde formaldehyde, and acrolein – all of them are respiratory or carcinogens irritants that may affect your general well-being.
In 2015, another study performed on the effects of e-cigs on the human body, emphasized that formaldehyde (which is contained in e-cigs) is a carcinogen that is also found in cigarette smoke.
Two additional carcinogens were discovered – glycidol and propylene oxide. In spite of the findings, in 2016 a major report came out, defending the e-cig industry.
The study was performed by the Royal College of Physicians, and it concluded that e-cigarettes may have a beneficial effect on people’s health. The report has roughly 200 pages, and it concluded that people who smoke e-liquids have increased chances to quit, as opposed to those that smoke traditional cigarettes.
The number of people that use electronic cigarettes in the UK has just surpassed 2.1 million; and the number keeps growing.
Ever since they were first introduced in 2007, e-cigs have been marketed as being the best devices to help smokers quit smoking. Even those that can quit entirely should switch to e-cigs, because unlike the conventional products, e-liquids don’t contain any tobacco.
Little by little, you can adjust the nicotine levels, and before you know it you’ve quit smoking for good.
Another study performed in March, claimed that nearly 900,000 smokers switched to e-cigarettes in 2014.
Those that prefer e-cigarettes say that the benefits are numerous.
First of all, the emissions are lower in e-cigs than in conventional cigarettes. For some people, that might happen – long-time smokers that just can’t quit.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that your health will improve if you switch to e-cigs.
Traditional cigarettes are uber unhealthy, e-cigs are just unhealthy!
We can’t really compare traditional cigarettes with e-cigs. E-cigs don’t contain any tobacco, although that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re healthier.
Nonetheless, when there’s no other option to keep your vice under control, electronic cigarettes seem like the most viable option. One of the key benefits of electronic cigarettes is that they don’t affect the health of those around you.
This means that if you want to vape and there are kids or non-smokers nearby, their health won’t be affected in any way.
When you smoke tobacco your sense of smell is significantly reduced. The whole thing happens slowly, so slowly that you may not even be able to notice it.
However, when you switch to electronic cigarettes, you’ll see that your sense of smell will improve significantly. Soon enough all your senses will improve, and you’ll once again experience pleasurable scents you can’t even remember.
Improved sense of taste
If you’re a heavy smoker you probably know already that your sense of taste is limited. That’s because tar and smoke inhibits taste; although this happens in time, and you may not be able to notice the side effects in the beginning. In some cases, you may notice that some of your favorite foods taste totally different. With vaping, you’ll never have to eat tasteless food again.
When using a vaping device, you can adjust the nicotine levels. Little by little, you may end up quitting for good. As far as the actual taste of an e liquid e-cig is concerned, it’s worth mentioning that the variety of flavors and aromas are endless. With traditional cigs, choices are limited.
Lowering nicotine levels in the e-juice but without losing the taste is one of the best and most realistic ways to give up smoking.
